In the dark, lifeless night I watched the lantern bestow light The onlooking eyes admired and admired but eventually They turned away once the lantern became one with the sky Yet I continued to look at its almost invisible descent I broke into a run without knowing why
I followed it to the ends of my world How it whirled and twirled and swirled Finally, it sank behind the bush No longer lit I wondered whether it hid from me Or I hid from it
Impossible to know where the winds have blown
And where the lantern has flown
But if only we could show the world
Our beauty and our plight
If only we could embrace our fall
Just like our flight
